First Finish · Doha Edition

Your first half marathon, paced properly through the Qatar heat.

A 12-week TrainingPeaks plan for the Doha half marathon. Paced from your own 5 km test, with heat-smart guidance for the hot early weeks and a race-day plan, so you finish strong.

Why this plan exists

Most first half marathons are lost in the first 5 km.

For a January race, the first half of your training falls in Qatar’s hot months, when pace targets mean little and it is easy to overdo it. This plan tells you when to run on a treadmill and when to run by effort, teaches you your own race pace from week 3, then rehearses it on tired legs.

Every target is set from your own 5 km time trial, so the plan fits your pace, whether you finish in under two hours or closer to three.

Inside the plan

Twelve weeks, counting down to race day.

  1. Weeks 1–3

    Foundation

A 5 km test to set your paces, relaxed running and your first race-pace practice.

  2. Week 4

    Recovery

Less running and lighter strength, so you start the next block fresh.

  3. Weeks 5–7

    Endurance build

Longer race-pace blocks and long runs building to 110 minutes.

  4. Week 8

    Recover and retest

A lighter week with your second 5 km test to update your paces.

  5. Weeks 9–10

    Race-specific peak

One 120-minute long run, then a dress rehearsal with 30 minutes at race pace.

  6. Weeks 11–12

    Taper and race

Less running, short pace reminders, and your first half marathon on the Saturday.

  • 12 weeks of structured runs and short strength sessions that sync to Garmin and other compatible watches
  • About 3–4 hours a week: 4 runs and 2 short strength sessions, with Monday and Sunday rest
  • 5 km time trials in weeks 1 and 8, with the free TRIFIT threshold pace calculator to set your paces
  • Race-pace practice from week 3, building to a 30-minute dress rehearsal
  • Long runs set by time, building to one 120-minute peak run
  • A race-day plan: pacing for each part of the race, fueling and drinking
  • Stronger TRIFIT heat guidance for weeks 1–6, when Qatar is usually still hot

How it works.

Telani sets up your plan in TrainingPeaks herself, so there is no store purchase to make. After that, you train on your own, and her support comes at set points: pace checks after your two tests, your race-day plan in week 11 and a call in race week.

Before you buy

Frequently asked questions.

Do I need TrainingPeaks Premium?

No. A free TrainingPeaks account is enough to receive and complete the plan.

How do I set my training paces?

Run the 5 km time trial in week 1, then enter your time in the free TRIFIT threshold pace calculator. It gives your threshold pace for TrainingPeaks and the pace for every zone. You repeat the test in week 8.

What happens after I book Plan + Race-Day Plan?

After payment, Telani connects with you on TrainingPeaks and loads the full plan into your calendar, lined up to your race date. You train on your own and send your 5 km time after the week 1 and week 8 tests for a pace check. Your personal race-day plan arrives in week 11, with kilometre splits for your goal time, followed by a 15-minute call in race week. Weekly check-ins and plan changes are part of TRIFIT coaching, not this package.

Can I use the plan for next year’s race?

Yes. The plan has no fixed dates. It is set to end on your race date, with race day on the Saturday of week 12.

I’m not running four times a week yet. Is it for me?

Not yet. Build up to four runs a week and a comfortable 7–8 km first, then start the plan. That keeps the build safe and enjoyable.

What if I miss sessions?

Skip what you missed and carry on with the current week. Do not try to catch up. For a plan that adapts around your life, TRIFIT coaching is the better option.

What if it is hot?

For a January race, weeks 1–6 usually fall in Qatar’s hot months. Every run in those weeks has a TRIFIT heat note: when to run on a treadmill, when to start before sunrise, and when to run by effort instead of pace. It is training guidance, not medical advice.
